Real Communities Grow

While the world battles with global warming in a weakened economy, minority communities are battling hunger and poverty. ABC's Be Good To Your Hood Campaign is targeting these socioeconomic barriers as we fight to close the gap between Blacks and green living. Learn how to grow an organic garden, loan a plot of dirt in your back yard that we may til it and share the harvest with needy families, or find out how to profit from a hobby garden.

A Southside Tragedy

August 11, 2009 - A 9 year old boy was crushed by machinery operated by his father this morning. The Association of Block Clubs urges community residents to be extra careful of children playing in the area. Don't assume young people are being supervised. If you feel children need to be monitored, don't be apprehensive about asking parents will they need assistance with supervision. Parents be aware of what friends your child is visiting and the areas in which they are playing. Always ensure that a trusted adult is near by because cell phones are not always reliable.

87th & Drexel Robberies

August 5, 2009 - There has been a number of armed robberies at the Woodruff Metra Station. The Association of Block Clubs urges residents to be mindful of high alert areas and if possible always ask someone to meet you or look out for you when traveling to and from public places. ABC offers  SNAPP (Safe Neighborhoods and People Patrol) services. Our leaders will escort you to and from public transportation stops and local community businesses. Please call in advance 773.359.6692 to arrange for these services.

Killer Weeds

July 14, 2009 - A father files a wrongful death lawsuit one year after his daughters death, claiming Metra is at fault for failing to attend to the over growth near tracks where his daughter was fatally stabbed. The Association of Block Clubs urges you to call 311 and alderman if you should notice properties that have an overgrowth of foliage. If your complaints are not met accordingly by local authorities please contact ABC at 773.359.6692. The Association of Block Clubs offers community advocacy that will effectively address your concerns.
