Since 2008 the Association of Block Clubs has forged community driven relationships to act as one voice of residents, block clubs, community organizations, and businesses. We rely on community leaders to help advance ABC's purposes of building, strengthening, and protecting our communities by utilizing effective communication tools to raise social awareness and increase community involvement.
ABC is a direct action organization and we encourage everyone to become an advocate for community. We identify, train, and support leaders who want to make a difference in the world around them. You can help your community by volunteering, starting or joining a local community group, taking a workshop, advocating for change, or participaticipating in a direct action.

A single-mother of four, welding student, and talented artist calls a liberated vacant house "home," in the South Side's Calumet Heights Community.
After losing her children's father tragically and economic bust after the banking crisis, Tene has worked more than two jobs simultaneously to support her family.
Struggling to find gainful employment and stay in school, she moved back to her childhood home with her sister and parents only to find they too were battling eviction due to threats of foreclosure.
Liberate the South Side(LSS), a grassroots group of South Side residents, launched their Home Liberation Project to occupy vacant bank-owned homes. Their purpose is to "Liberate the South Side is a group of concerned South Side and South Suburban residents, who are working together to hold Wall Street accountable to the needs of our communities. The group’s Home Liberation Project aims to re-occupy vacant, foreclosed homes," according to their blog. The LSS project gave the single mother a second chance.
"The banks were bailed out and given a second chance. I believe that working families should be given a second chance as well, to have gainful employment and affordable housing. I want to say thank you to everyone for giving me and my family this chance," humbly states Tene.
Neighbors welcomed the new family with open arms and baring house-warming gifts. One neighbor is quoted saying, "the true gift is having one less boarded up home in the community." Read more at the IIRON Blog
